Basketball seniors open final season as Jayhawks

Fans electrified Allen Fieldhouse on Friday night for the opening of the 2004-2005 season. Jayhawk fans showed their excitment for the start of basketball season. For the four seniors on the squad this is their last chance to walk off the court national champions.

The Vermont Catamounts, two-time defending America East Conference champions, came prepared to face the number one team in the nation.

The 'Hawks got the ball first. Langford put up a quick three pointer. It looked as if the team would roll. The four seniors, Aaron Miles, Wayne Simien, Michael Lee and Keith Langford brought energy to the court, maybe a bit too much energy. The Jayhawks shot a dismal 34.4% in the first half. Fast play contributed to 16 turnovers in the game. Silly turnovers and missed shots kept the game close until the final minutes.

With 2:40 left in the game Miles hit a shot clock beating 2-pointer, his first basket of the game. If Miles made one shot of Saturday's game he was glad it came when it did. The shot gave KU a 63-59 lead they would never relenquish. The Jayhawks beat Vermont, 68-61.
